Resilience

The watermelon's symbolism in Palestinian culture dates back to the aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day War, during which Israel seized control of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Palestinians faced criminalisation if they displayed their national flag. However,
the Palestinian people ingeniously turned to the watermelon, which when sliced, mirrors the colors of the Palestinian flag—red, black, white, and green. Recently, however, another symbol has resurfaced, representing the sweet spirit of resilience integral to Palestinian culture.
